“Building the future and keeping the past alive are one and the same thing.” – Solid Snake
Welcome to blog post number two and welcome for the first time to LinkedIn users! I’ve connected the accounts but I’m not sure how it outputs to LinkedIn automatically, hopefully, it’s not disasterous.
I really thought that I had it down when it came to multi-tasking in a busy environment. At PlayStation, games, patches and DLC were called “Submissions” and they came through the department, thick and fast! Just think about how much is released on PS each day and all of that has to go through one Certification department.
I had been doing that for years though. I knew the systems and I had skilled colleagues, so it was never a burden, it was fun. The systems and practices in place worked well as they were designed to handle that kind of global volume and things were, although busy, very predictable.
When I moved over to an indie dev team, I had read about Agile, I knew of “sprints” but in practice, it was totally new to me. The change in the pace of the work and the style of management made a sprint feel like I was sat on the benches watching the dev team pass by in a blur.
I didn’t really know what a Producer did when I joined Skyhook, but I quickly gained an appreciation for the role!
Multiple teams, across multiple projects. Tasks flying left to right across Jira boards— it was intense. Where do I fit in? How was I going to apply what I knew to this fast-paced, ever-changing environment? Well, I tried a few things! Some stuck, some didn’t. But once my eyes focused and the team became less of a blur to me, I joined the sprint(s).
Next week, I’ll talk about the pros and cons of the first attempt to integrate. The Open For Testing Trello board. Hopefully see you then!
